Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr for SNF nurse-aide in-service under the nursing-home rules (ch. DHS 132); no continuing education is required to keep registry status (only 8 hours of paid nurse-aide work every 24 months). Note a training-length overlay: Wisconsin's entry NATCEP is 120 hours (75 classroom + 32 clinical + 13 lab), exceeding the 75-hour federal minimum.
Stepping into the role
State overlay (DHS 129.06): the primary instructor must be an RN licensed in Wisconsin with at least 2 years of experience working as an RN, of which at least 1 year is actual work providing care in a nursing home, and the instructor must attend a department-approved instructor training course (waivable for substantially equivalent training/experience). A 'program designee' (DHS 129.05) handles administrative duties such as annual reports and change requests. Other content may be taught by qualified licensed health-professional 'program trainers'.
