Keeping skills current
12 hrs/yr. 907 KAR 1:450 Section 4 restates the federal floor: the nursing facility must provide and document at least 12 hours of ongoing staff development annually to each nurse aide. No state overlay above the federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95).
Stepping into the role
State rule tracks the federal floor. 907 KAR 1:450 Sec. 3(3)(b): the primary instructor must be an RN with a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, at least 1 year of which is in long-term care; an LPN with at least 1 year of experience may provide supplementary instruction (Sec. 3(3)(c)); the skills-demonstration evaluation is administered by an RN with at least 1 year caring for the elderly or chronically ill. This mirrors 42 CFR 483.152 with no added experience overlay.

Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services — Department for Medicaid Services (DMS) administers the nurse-aide training program and registry; the Kentucky Board of Nursing co-maintains the registry; SNFs are licensed by the CHFS Office of Inspector General, Division of Health Care.
