Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr. R432-150-9(6)(b) requires the facility to conduct regular performance reviews and regular in-service education so aides remain competent; no additional state hour count identified.
Stepping into the role
State overlay on 42 CFR 483.152 (R432-45-8/-9/-10): the Program Coordinator must be an RN with an active Utah license in good standing with DOPL, >=2 years nursing experience with >=1 year in long-term care / caring for the elderly or chronically ill, plus >=3 hours of documented consulting time per month; the Primary Instructor must be a licensed nurse with the same 2-year / 1-year experience; and BOTH must complete a UNAR-approved 'Train-the-Trainer' program (or demonstrate teaching competence) before the NATCEP is approved.

The Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) administers the NATCEP under contract with the Department; the RN license and good standing are verified through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).
