Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). State SNF rules (IDAPA 16.03.02) require orientation of new nursing-service employees and an ongoing in-service education program, but set no higher numeric annual total.
Stepping into the role
Federal RN rule applies (42 CFR 483.152: RN with 2 yrs nursing experience, at least 1 in long-term care, or a qualified train-the-trainer). Idaho overlay: the entity applies to DHW to operate the aide course, each program director and instructor is listed and approved, and DHW guidance states the primary instructor may not be the facility's Director of Nursing. The 120-hour course (80 classroom + 40 clinical) follows the federal NATCEP standard.
