Commonly called
Staff Development Coordinator / In-Service Coordinator (facility-designated; typically an RN). The training-program RN is the 'primary instructor'/supervising RN.
Keeping skills current
Aggregates to the federal 12 hrs/yr but is structured as 24 hours of Department-approved continuing education per 24-month certification period for renewal (16 Del. Admin. Code 3220-2.0), plus 64 hrs of paid nursing service. OVERLAY: a mandatory facility orientation for every newly hired CNA under a nurse's supervision (3220-4.0; hours set by Secretary's written order — commonly cited as 80 clock hours with 40 clinical).
Stepping into the role
Training must be by or under the general supervision of an RN with >=2 years of RN experience, at least 1 year in nursing-home facility services; that RN develops lesson plans, verifies instructor qualifications, and evaluates instructor proficiency every 6 months (16 Del. Admin. Code 3220-3.2). Instructors must also have completed a Department-approved course in teaching adults (or equivalent experience).
