Commonly called
Staff Development Coordinator / In-Service Coordinator (facility title); the regulated role is the state-approved 'Nursing Assistant Training Program Director' and 'Program Instructor'
Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95(g)) for SNF nurse-aide in-service, enforced through nursing-home licensing (WAC 388-97); there is no separate CNA continuing-education mandate to keep registry/NA-C status beyond the credential's renewal
Stepping into the role
State overlay in WAC 246-841A-430: the Program DIRECTOR must be an RN with an active WA license, at least 3 years as an RN (with at least 1 year direct patient care), plus a completed adult-instruction course or 1 year of experience teaching adults; INSTRUCTORS must be an RN or LPN with active WA license and at least 1 year of recent (within 3 years) direct care for the elderly/chronically ill (or 3 years such care with 1 year of licensed nursing) plus the adult-instruction course. The Board of Nursing individually approves each director and instructor.
