Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). AZDHS R9-10-403 requires the institution's policies to cover orientation and in-service education but sets no state hour count above the federal floor. Arizona's overlay is on INITIAL training: AZBN requires 120 hours (40 classroom + 20 lab + 40 clinical + 20 need-based) vs. the 75-hour federal minimum.
Stepping into the role
State overlay (A.A.C. R4-19-802): the Program Coordinator must be an RN with an active/unencumbered license and >=2 years nursing experience, at least 1 year in long-term care (a facility's DON may be Coordinator but not instructor); the Primary Instructor must be an RN with >=1 year / 1,500 hours of direct-care experience PLUS an adult-teaching qualification (a 3-credit adult teaching/learning course, a 40-hour CE program, 1 year teaching adults, or 1 year supervising nursing assistants).
