Keeping skills current
175 NAC 12-006 requires nursing assistants to receive at least 12 hrs/yr of ongoing training on topics appropriate to their duties — follows the federal floor of 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95).
Stepping into the role
State reg requires the nurse-aide (NATCEP) course to be 'administered by registered nurses' currently licensed in Nebraska (172 NAC 108-004.03), with no added state experience overlay for the primary instructor; the federal 42 CFR 483.152 RN-2yr / 1yr-LTC rule therefore governs. The competency skills evaluator must be an RN with at least one year's experience caring for the elderly or chronically ill (172 NAC 108-006.01(B)(iii)).
