Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). Kansas mandates no separate annual CE for certified nurse aides (aides maintain certification through qualifying employment, not CE hours).
Stepping into the role
State overlay on 42 CFR 483.152. The course instructor must be an RN with a current Kansas license and at least 2 years of licensed nursing experience including at least 1,750 hours in an adult care home or a hospital long-term-care unit, PLUS a course/CE in teaching adults or experience teaching adults/supervising aides, AND 7 hours of person-centered-care CE within the year before and each year while instructing (K.A.R. 28-39-166). During clinical instruction the instructor may perform no other duties. Course is 90 hours; sponsored by an adult care home, hospital LTC unit, or a Board of Regents postsecondary school.
