Staff Development Coordinator / In-Service Coordinator (facility-designated); for CNA training the Board of Nursing roles are 'Program Coordinator' and 'Primary Instructor')
Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). CDPHE nursing-care-facility rules (6 CCR 1011-1 Ch. 5) require ongoing staff development — orientation, in-service and continuing education including CPR — overseen by nursing management, but set no state hour count above the federal floor.
Stepping into the role
State overlay (3 CCR 716-1.11): the Primary Instructor must be an RN with an active, unencumbered Colorado license and >=2 years of RN experience; the Program Coordinator is a qualified RN responsible for program compliance; in an LTC-facility-based program the Director of Nursing may be the Program Coordinator but not the Primary Instructor.

Colorado State Board of Nursing (Dept. of Regulatory Agencies, DORA) certifies nurse aides and approves nurse-aide training programs/instructors (3 CCR 716-1.11); Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), Health Facilities & Emergency Medical Services Division, licenses nursing care facilities (6 CCR 1011-1, Chapter 05).
