Commonly called
Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor (iCNA); facility in-service education is coordinated under the Director of Nursing
Keeping skills current
Facility in-service follows the federal floor of 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). Separately, Nevada CNAs must complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2-year renewal cycle through the Board of Nursing (NAC 632.193).
Stepping into the role
State OVERLAY exceeding the federal rule: to teach/evaluate CNAs a person must hold a Board-issued iCNA certificate — an unencumbered permanent Nevada RN license, at least 3 years of nursing experience (including experience caring for the elderly/chronically ill and in long-term care), and completion of a Board-approved Train-the-Trainer course (NRS 632.2856; NAC 632.775). In a facility-based program the Director of Nursing may not serve as the instructor.
