Keeping skills current
Follows federal 12 hrs/yr (42 CFR 483.95). Separate registry-active status requires >=8 hrs paid nursing work per 24 months (19 CSR 30-84.010(18)).
Stepping into the role
Strong state overlay: instructor must be a Missouri-licensed RN (or compact/temporary permit), not on the Employee Disqualification List, with >=2 yrs nursing experience and >=1 yr LTC experience in the last 10 yrs, AND must complete a state-approved Nursing Assistant Instructor Workshop, receive a DHSS letter of approval, be listed on the DHSS approved-instructor list, and complete a 4-hr update every 5 yrs (19 CSR 30-84.010(12)(A), (16)).
